The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) in association with Devkikrishna Sports Club Mashel distributed kit to over 100 trainees from Marcel Football Development Centre at the hands of Dr. Rufino Monteiro, Chairman of GFDC. Also present at the function were Andrew D’Souza, Manager CSR, Deccan Fine Chemical Pvt Ltd, Corlim ; Derryl D’souza, Technical in-charge GFDC; Omkar Amonkar, president of Devkikrishna Sports Club Mashel and Dayanand Bhagat, GFDC centre head.

Dr. Rufino requested the kids to balance their time between study and play. He also thanked Deccan Chemicals and Devkikrishna Sports Club Mashel for their help rendered to GFDC “I feel very happy when the kids from here win a title or a match. Our girls and boys from this centre have emerged champions in the Subroto tournament as well as the one organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. I congratulate the parents who have put their children here to train,” he said.

“Parents should avoid giving their kids fast food such as pizzas, chips and burgers but instead given them healthy food. Children should play some kind of game as it will help to improve not only their health but also enhance their performance in academics,” he added.

Speaking at the occasion Andrew D’Souza praised GFDC for the efforts being put in to develop football at the grassroots. “When we started this centre four years ago I was shocked to see that over 100 trainees joined us because football was not very popular in Marcel. Trainees should be happy that they have coaches to guide and instruct them as we didn’t have any guidance during our days. GFDC has opened so many centres in Goa and are really trying to bring up the game,” pointed out Andrew.

Derryl wished the trainees good luck in the upcoming inter centre tournament and also urged parents to send their kids for training regularly.
